photo 5Almost anyone would probably say that I should leave it alone.  It’s beautiful as it is.  And I can agree, except that there were some cosmetic issues with this one that I felt only paint could repair.  This vanity sat in my shop for almost six months before I finally decided to re-vamp it.  I was torn, just as most would be.  Not to mention, it’s been so cold and I just don’t do cold.  Finally, a warm day!  And it began… I used my homemade chalk paint recipe and two-toned it with a beautiful robin’s egg blue (the photos DO NOT do this color justice) and an antique white.  I apologize for my photography skills,  but it is truly beautiful.  My original intention was to bring this to my store to sell, however once started, I decided this would look so cute in my daughter’s room.

Unfortunately, I think she is unsure if she wants to use it.  It is now sitting in my shop…waiting for a home.

photo 3This bench was fashioned from an old twin size bed.  My hubby is the best.  He can build anything and I was so proud of this one!  I can only take credit for the painting (and maybe for the original idea).   It turned out so lovely and I’m just crazy about it.   I’m working on an idea for a cushion, but the inspiration just hasn’t come to me yet.  This can be seen in store.  :)

New store hours:

Beginning Sept. 1, 2012 our new hours will be as follows:

Thursday through Saturday we will be open from 10am to 5pm.

Sorry, we will no longer open on Sundays

Due to the recent storms that blew through Ethridge, we will be CLOSED until further notice. We lost a tree that took out our power lines. We are working on getting this fixed as soon as possible. I apologize for the inconvenience.

7/13/2012….Electricity has now been reconnected.  We are resuming normal business hours today!  I’ve enjoyed the week off, but VERY ready to get back to work!

So, as I said last week, I HAD to revisit these cute little flour sack towels.  I decided to tea dye a few of them and get started on dressing these things up a bit.  I found some beautiful graphics, (kitchen related, of course) for the towels, printed them out and transferred them.  I think they came out quite lovely!

I then decided to try my hand at sewing a few pillows.  I found some nice graphics for these, as well.  I must say I am definitely a novice when it comes to using my sewing machine.  But, I wasn’t too disappointed with the results…I learn a little more about the thing every time I use it.

These are for sale in the store…towels are $5 each and the pillows are $8 each.

CORRECTION:  Last week, some of you may have seen this with different dates…we have decided to change our vacation dates.  Sorry for any confusion!  :)

This is my first attempt at using chalk paint.  I could’ve shucked out the $34.95 for a quart of Annie Sloan‘s, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it without trying this first.  I must say, I was very pleased with the results.  That’s not to say that Annie Sloan hasn’t revolutionized the art of painting furniture.  In my opinion, she has.  But until I can talk myself into taking the leap and buying EVERY color she has, I will stick with this homemade version.  This paint is great because there is NO prep-work needed.  You can pretty much slap it on anything without sanding, priming, etc.  And, when you distress, it’s just way too easy.  The paint comes off in a dust form.  Once the distressing was finished, I then waxed it with a coat of clear wax, let that dry for about an hour and waxed again with dark wax.  After buffing, this is the finished results.  Not too bad for a novice, I think!

I just adore these flour sack kitchen towels. I’ve always loved how thin and soft they are, but wanted to add a little something to dress them up. So, this morning, I dug out this stencil that I had purchased a few weeks ago at Hobby Lobby. Maybe this will inspire me to do the dishes!

I plan to keep this one for myself, but have many ideas for these in the future that I plan to sell in the store.  I will post more pics as I complete them and may even list on eBay or Etsy…I suppose that depends on whether I can part with them!

Just picked up this adorable old, 6 foot farm table.  I think I’ll paint it, maybe shabby chic it!  ….Pictures to come of the finished product!
